Digital technologies guarantee users unmatched quality for both images and sound. They also help to enhance television viewing through program guides and personalized services (weather, news, local services, interactivity, etc.). With its strategic partners, Thomson has developed some of the most efficient interactive and personalized television services. In the United States, since 1999 the Group has marketed televisions equipped with an electronic program guide developed with Gemstar and, at the beginning of 2001, launched a new digital decoder in partnership with DIRECTV (this decoder integrates a hard drive which makes it possible to personalize one's viewing experience) and Microsoft's Ultimate TV interactive television service.

In Europe, Thomson introduced the first television sets equipped with technology that provides access to TAK interactive services, which have been marketed in France since the beginning of 2001. The Group was also chosen by Canal+ to develop and supply a new generation of decoders integrating a hard drive and Internet access
