New York - July 10, 2002 - Integrating the latest audio enhancements into a line of upscale and elegantly styled home theatre products, Thomson (Euronext: 18453) (NYSE: TMS) introduced today three RCA Scenium advanced audio products designed to transform any living room into a powerful home theatre experience. The new RCA Scenium home theatre audio products are streamlined to provide easy hook-up and customized settings, creating a personalized entertainment package.
“Powerful audio components play an integral part in creating a gripping home theatre environment, and we’ve developed a line of products that are the perfect complement to a compelling RCA Scenium high-definition display,” said Mark Redmond, Vice President, Worldwide Audio and Video Products, Thomson. “We're elevating the total home theatre concept to present high technology in a dynamic, expressive way, incorporating the right combinations of features and components to balance the consumer's home entertainment needs with DVD players, amplifiers, receivers and speakers. The uniform, brushed metal finishes and consistent design elements are incorporated throughout the entire product family, giving consumers a stylish solution.”
Super Slim All-in-One Home Theatre System Features Progressive Scan DVD and “Touch Sensor” Controls
Pairing technological advancements and elegance, the RCA Scenium DVD/CD Home Theatre System delivers powerful sound in an ultra-compact, slim design. Measuring only 16.9" wide x 14.2" deep by 2.4" high, the RTD101 receiver combines the best features of a DVD player, CD player, stereo tuner, amplifier, and Dolby Digital decoder into a stylish, silver package. The unit incorporates a progressive scan DVD player to deliver a crisp, true-to-life image.
The unique “Touch Sensor” motorized drawer of the RCA Scenium RTD101 allows the DVD tray to magically open as soon as the user’s fingers softly touch the controls. The DVD player also features smooth 4X slow motion for viewing digital content forwards and backwards; a three language on-screen display; and supports CD, CD-R/RW and mp3 CDs, allowing consumers to easily select and program their favorite tracks via an on-screen display.
Component video outputs and S-Video connections allow for the addition of audio and video accessories and the quick connect guide and E-Z Use features help simplify hook up and operation.
The 450-watt RTD101 incorporates a new, highly efficient, fully digital switching amplifier for unparalleled sound reproduction, and provides Dolby Digital surround sound, DTS surround, and Dolby ProLogic II decoding. Also included is a digital AM/FM stereo tuner and an audio/video remote control. The distinctively designed RTD101 has five 70-watt satellite speakers and a 100-watt subwoofer for enhancing crisp, bass sounds. Available in September, the RTD101 has a suggested retail price of $399.
Versatile Digital Audio Receiver Supports Multiple Formats
With 550 watts of full bandwidth, low distortion* power, the RCA Scenium Dolby Digital Receiver provides a powerful centerpiece for the home theatre enthusiast. The RT2660R is fully compatible with both DVD-Audio and SACD formats; supports Dolby Digital surround sound, DTS surround, and Dolby ProLogic II decoding; and includes an AM/FM digital tuner with 40 station presets. An enhanced jack panel allows connectivity with multiple audio video components. Both digital inputs and outputs are included, as well as component video outputs and five S-Video connections. A universal audio/video remote control is also included. When paired with the new RCA Scenium SP2660 speaker package, the RT2660R delivers powerful, theatre-like sound.
Available in September, the suggested retail price of the RT2660R is $299.
High Performance Speaker Package Enhances Home Viewing
Delivering exceptional sound in a chic, sophisticated package, the RCA Scenium Five-Satellite Speaker Package with Powered Subwoofer (model SP2660) unites the latest audio enhancements with expressive designs. The versatile speakers can be placed in home entertainment centers, mounted on the wall, or displayed using speaker table stands that are included.
“The RCA Scenium satellite speaker package was specifically designed to fit comfortably with a variety of living room environments,” Redmond said. “The speakers employ a soft, ‘pillow-like’ design, with no sharp points, creating a very inviting look, while at the same time delivering a dominant sound performance.”
Satellite Woofer and Tweeter Enhance Heavy Bass Sounds
All five satellite speakers are two-way bass reflex designs, and utilize a tuned port for low distortion full bass and dome tweeters for clean, immediate midrange and highs. Each satellite woofer is made of low weight, high strength polypropylene, and butyl rubber surrounds are used for long lasting performance. Additionally, all five satellite speakers are magnetically shielded to allow placement as close to the TV as may be desired. The speakers also feature gold plated speaker terminals that deter corrosion, while providing secure electrical connections.
The subwoofer is powered by a built in 100-watt amplifier, and uses an
eight-inch, non-pressed paper cone. A volume control on the subwoofer allows individual selection of the bass performance, and a 180-degree adjustable phase control allows the subwoofer to be optimally placed in any position in the room.
Available this fall, the suggested retail price of the SP2660 speaker package is $699. Optional matching speaker stands are also available at a suggested retail price of $299.
